HIPAA Medical Office Tools. Why can't we do better?

Why us? Why Now? What can we offer that others are not? What tools are medical practices using every day and what needs to be HIPAA compliant?

These are the biggest questions we asked ourselves and medical professionals in many specialties while laying the framework for ExamRoom Live. The feedback we received was no surprise. It did not matter what specialty we spoke with Behavioral Health, ENT, Ophthalmology, Pediatrics, Dermatology, and many more. The largest needs seemed to be similar:

• Gaining access to HIPAA compliant Telehealth that is easy for offices and patients to use.
• The ability to accept payments for telehealth visits, in-office visits, and invoicing patients.
• Ability to send eFaxes.
• Communication with patients through SMS for faster messaging or appointment reminders.
• Encrypted HIPAA compliant way to communicate with patients.
• Internal Office tools like time tracking and office chat.

So why don’t practices have access to this today? Great question.

The answers vary, but commonly we found that either practices couldn’t find a service they were happy with, didn’t have time to implement, were too expensive, or the tool they wanted simply didn’t exist. Unfortunately, the response we heard most was that practices have some of these tools but they all were living in separate programs making them expensive, difficult to jump from one to the other, and time-consuming to manage.

We decided to do something about it!
